Warners Tries To Destroy Netflix

Warner Brothers has announced that it will withhold DVD's from DVD rental services like Netflix & Redbox for 56 days after release. This is a blatant attempt to harm the companies involved.

The supposed reason is the low sales of DVD's. The studio is trying to stem the tide of people renting through Netflix. But does anyone really believe people will stop renting & start buying DVD's? Why should I spend $15-$20 to buy a movie I may watch once?

Like the music industry, Hollywood has not learned. People are not going to do their bidding. The cheapest, not really advertised Netflix subscription is $5.50 a month for 2 DVD's & 2 hours online. This is good for someone who likes movies but doesn't really have a lot of time to watch a lot of them. Plus the streaming offerings are quite limited anyway.

Universal's deal with Netflix & Redbox ends in April. Will they do the same thing? I'm guessing they will. It's an idiotic posture by Hollywood, which tried to make the VCR illegal. They never learn. The actual result will be more & more people illegally downloading movies off of foreign sites. And mind you, the studios are not going out of business anytime soon.

Here's the worldwide gross for 2011:
Harry Potter pt 2 made $1.3 B
Transformers $1.1 B
Pirates 4 $1 B

Yeah, they really are being hurt by Netflix.
