Are they serious? This is such a bad idea. Why would Microsoft do this? The idea is to have an OS that is like those for smartphones & tablets. But those are products with touchscreens. A pop-up keyboard. No thank you. Those don't work that well. I use a real keyboard. Know why twitter is popular? You use a smartphone to post. This works because it's only 140 characters. Think you could use a phones keyboard or a tablet's virtual keyboard to write a long form post? Of course not.
Now I disagree with well known curmudgeon John C Dvorak, who thinks this will help get Linux on the desktop. Good luck with that. I have Ubuntu on a 4GB USB stick & haven't used it in months. Why? Because Linux sucks big time. Video is awful, the music players are horrid, & trying to find a file is a lot of work. No thank you. It's also not very attractive. Still looks like something designed by a teenager.
But a smartphone OS for a desktop? That is a really bad idea & I hope M$ realizes this. Of course Apple wants to have MacOSX & iOS on the next computer so maybe Microsoft is reacting to whatever Jobs does.
